Carborough Downs is an underground longwall and bord & pillar mining operation, located 25km east of Moranbah in the heart of the Bowen Basin. The mine extracts coal from the Leichhardt Seam which ranges between 4.5 – 5.7m in thickness and produces steelmaking coal sold to meet the growing needs of international steel demand. The mine commenced production in 2006 and is a proud contributor to the local and regional economies, currently employing ~500 people. With a remaining mine life in excess of ten years, Fitzroy looks forward to the continuation of this contribution.

Fitzroy Mining Operation’s latest expansion, Ironbark No.1, is an underground longwall operation, located 25km north of Carborough Downs. Ironbark No.1 shares key infrastructure with Fitzroy’s other operations and run-of-mine production from Ironbark will be hauled to the existing Coal Handling Plant at Carborough Downs for processing and train loading. The Ironbark No.1 operation achieved first coal in August 2022 just seven months after commencing construction in January 2022. First longwall coal from the mine is projected to commence in late 2023. At full production, Ironbark No.1 is expected to have a ~ 360 strong workforce.

Broadlea is an open cut mine located ~9km northwest of Carborough Downs, sharing key surface infrastructure including the CHPP and train load out facilities. To ensure sustainable operations, Broadlea’s mining method involves the implementation of a diesel-electric crawler Dragline with associated excavator & truck operations. With a mine life extension of 10+ years, the Dragline ensures the operation’s viability for many years to come.

The 12 Mile Project represents the opportunity to develop a large-scale open pit (Rangals Measures) and underground operation (Moranbah Measures). The project is in the early stages of exploration and assessment however is located directly adjacent to a number of world-class metallurgical coal mines represents an exciting future growth opportunity for Fitzroy.

With more than 100,000ha of tenements, Fitzroy’s portfolio represents a regionally significant position in the central Bowen Basin. In addition to the projects highlighted above, Fitzroy has an attractive portfolio of exploration tenements which are subject to ongoing exploration and assessment.
